News From The Camp

We have been having so much fun the first two weeks of summer camp. The first week we learned a bit about basic music theory, sang some solfege songs, and did some fun activities. We have been making a new hand-crafted instrument each week as well. Week one centered on Latin percussion as we learned the history of the maracas and made “shaker eggs”. Week two we took a trip to Ireland, when we made celtic drums called Bodhrans, learned the solfege for the song “My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean”, and danced to the jig titled, ” The Irish Washerwoman”.
We haven’t forgotten our music history, either. Week one focused on the great German composer J.S. Bach with word search games, and a short bio. Our second week, we heard some music of another German giant, Ludwig van Beethoven and took home a second word search. Two weeks down, two more fun weeks to go!
